Scenic
Cotswold Villages
We
leave the Stratford-upon-Avon area and head for Broadway, the Gateway
to the Cotswolds. Beyond the village the skyline is dominated by the 65
feet Broadway Tower. The main street has been referred to as the 'Bond
Street' of the Cotswolds with its array of art galleries, antique shops,
specialist shops and of course country pubs and tea shops.
From
here we move onto Winchcombe another beautiful village which has a Folk
and Police Museum, Winchcombe pottery and the historic Sudeley Castle.
The castle has royal connections spanning 1000 years and was once home
to Queen Katherine Parr. Henry VIII, Anne Boleyn and Queen Elizabeth I
have all visited Sudeley and King Charles I stayed at the castle with
his nephew Prince Rupert.
We
now travel east towards Stow-on-the-Wold passing through several picturesque
villages stopping at Lower Slaughter with the river running alongside
the road and the award winning gift and craft shop as well as the Riverside
Tea Rooms.
On
to Stow-on-the-Wold, which is a bustling market town with many great shops
making it an ideal place to search for a special gift. The town is the
highest in the Cotswolds and was mainly built in the 17th and 18th century.
